Revell mini StarDestroyer - Painting

After being primed with Tamiya spray Primer, the stardestroyer received a heavy black wash. It is then let as is (no wiping) to act as a preshading

Gunze H338 Light Grey is the base color.

Given the small size of the model, I realized a minimal paneling: just a few panels are painted in blue gray (light blue gunze H417) here and there.

Everything is protected with a coat of Future/Klir. He then received a dark grey wash (wiped this time), but I think I will redone it with a lighter gray.

Revell mini StarDestroyer - Detailing

Well, despite this feeling on the Revell Stardestroyer, I started to building it.

So I sanded the too prominent small panels, by taking care to not make them disappear.

Before (bottom shell) | Following (upper shell)

The lacking paneling is engraved on all parts (without following any template, instead of the “looking nice” feeling). That is too long!

Before engraving (port side) | After (starboard)

The gap all around the underside dome is filled.

The tip of the nose is corrected (simply cut)

On the back, the grooved plates were downright recessed instead of being raised! So they are covered (this is difficult to see on the capture, as I used transparent plastic) Incidentally, I completed the details with small pieces of plastic rods.

In the lateral trenches, and upper buildings, I added tons of tiny plastic card rectangles. This is also too long!

And that beast is closed

Here it is now, This is significantly better!

And, one more that leaves to the paint workbench... I'll have to turn over to the painting, as I start to have a skyscrapper of kits waiting to be painted !

Revell mini StarDestroyer - Out of the box review

The Stardestroyer is the starship that I prefer of all the wide range of SW spacecrafts. So I was stamping with impatience when I learned that Revell was preparing one. With some regrets for the very small for the size they chose (this is their easy mini kits line).

So I open the box and .... that’s a big big disappointment! IMG_0973 IMG_0974 IMG_0976 IMG_0975

If the shape and general proportions are respected, it is a disaster on the details. The level is really quite low, and when there are, they are curiously too prominent. The paneling is light, and the surface has an appearance honestly hailed. The nose is too sharp (like the Anigrand).

The tractor beam generator (under the belly) is a part to report from behind, and leaves a large gap. (sorry no photo)

In comparison, the gashapon Stardestroyer (from F-Toy’s, and designed by FineMolds) is far better, although smaller.

For me, it is the SW worst kit from Revell.

Oh I forget, the scale (1/12300) on the box is correct, it is rare enough to notice this !
